Join MJN members, Ernest Verrett and Anjali Deshmukh, in the locally loved craft of community beading, an ancient, global tradition. As regular stewards of community beading in Queens, especially on 34th Avenue, we're drawing on this medium of wearable art to reflect on the story of climate change, in the form of a glittering bead curtain mapping global surface temperatures in comparison to the average from 1901-2000. Participants can add to the curtain to design alternative pasts & presents, and the unwritten future.
You can also play a story game, based on camouflaged words sprinkled throughout the curtain, and add your story to the the installation. Plus, as always community members are welcome gift a bead bracelet to the themselves, the neighborhood, or a loved one, joining our 34 Ave beading family.
