Narratives are multi-directional stories
Narratives form and transfer through reinforcement. We’re affected by what other people around us say and do; we affect ourselves by what we say and do; and we affect others along the way.
As a participant in justice movements, we seek to shift broad, dominant narratives that we don't agree with by “amplifying out” different narratives from different centers of power.
But it's super important to root in interaction & feedback loops, recognizing that this is how many people learn, and none of us have the “answers.” We need to listen as much as we share, and we also have to remember that we have been shaped by dominant narratives, too.
Multi-directional storytelling is one way in which we seek to practice democracy and circular leadership, 2 of MJN’s characteristics of justice.
