Narratives form when durational
We are most influenced when we experience something over and over again over the course of our lives. The same is true of beliefs and stories.
We often form narratives based on how we perceive and receive many hundreds of subtle instances of repeated information. Sometimes we can look back and notice the pattern in our own consciousness. But we can't always easily “count,” pinpoint, or “prove” them from the perspective of traditional statistics.
For example, toxic racial stereotypes exist in most media. But demonstrating this truth using hard data is complex, especially because narratives don't sit in media siloes.
Instead of trying to use evidence to prove what everyone we know echoes in lived experience, we ask: how can build capacity to resist over a long time and practice durational narrative building that offers an alternative?
