Jing (Ellen) Xu: small actions make big impacts

Jing (Ellen) Xu, a 2024 Street Work participant, is a visual artist born and raised in Inner Mongolia, China, and currently resides in Queens, NY. She has a BA in Sculpture and Law from Xiamen University, China, and an MFA in Photomedia from the University of Washington in Seattle.

As part of Street Works, join Jing (Ellen) Xu for an interactive art installation on balance in a space covered in colorful foam and cardboard rock towers. Each participant will have 2 minutes to balance seven foam rocks of different colors. (Spoiler: it's not easy!)

Ellen’s project emerges from the practice of rock balancing, which is often viewed as a form of active meditation that allows us to connect with nature and ourselves. Together, we’ll reflect on the impact of our actions on the environment. Look closely for tips on reducing and recycling plastic during the installation.
