The World's Borough Bookshop

The World's Borough Bookshop, in Jackson Heights, Queens, celebrates and sells books by BIPOC authors. Their shelves are dedicated to amplifying BIPOC voices, who are often underrepresented in most bookstores.

Queens is one of the most diverse places in the world, with over 130 languages spoken in just one borough and a population over 2 million. However, despite its size, there are very few bookstores around, leaving many areas as book deserts. The few here don't fully reflect the diversity of our community.

As a result, many young children, families, and adults lack access to books that represent their experiences, cultures, and identities. Our mission is to create a safe and inclusive space for everyone to discover, read, and celebrate diverse literature. We aim to highlight the voices and stories of underrepresented communities, and provide a space for them to connect.
