Farm bill is a climate bill

Major climate and conservation potential hang in the balance as Congress reauthorizes the farm bill, enacted into law in December 2018 and expired in 2023.

According to the Center on American Progress, farm bill conservation programs represent the largest source of federal funding for private landowners to preserve and steward their lands, waters, and wildlife. If designed well, it can support climate-smart innovation, help farmers and ranchers benefit from greenhouse gas-reducing practices, and build cleaner energy solutions for rural America.

It can also do more to address centuries of injustice experienced by Black, Indigenous, and people of color, (BIPOC), from theft, predatory practices, & denial of land, resources, information, political standing, education, and professional opportunities.
